About the college

A college built by the community, for the community

How a locality with no college of its own, and a visiting philanthropist's promise, became Sikandra's own institution of higher learning.

Portrait of Late Shri Dhanraj Singh, founder of the college
Late Shri Dhanraj Singh Former Member of Parliament · Founder, DRS College

In the early 1950s, the Sikandra block was home to nineteen high schools but not a single college — a gap the area's intellectuals had tried, and failed, to close more than once. That changed when Late Shri Dhanraj Singh, moved by a proposal put to him at a local ceremony, agreed to lead the effort.

A public meeting held at the High School, Pirhinda on 7 February 1982 turned that promise into a movement, with residents pledging their support in person. Registration of more than fifteen acres of land followed quickly, and on Buddha Purnima — 7 May 1982 — Dhanraj Babu inaugurated the college building himself, a date the college now marks as its foundation day. Teaching began on 4 August 1982, across Arts, Commerce and Science from the very first session.
